This is a private farm 4wd track from Lake Heron over the hill into the South Branch of the Ashburton River at Wild Mans Hut. The track offers amazing views over the Lake Heron valley, and the upper reaches of the Ashburton River up to Mt Arrowsmith.
This route is mapped as an in-and-out route, stopping just past Wild Mans Hut. It is possible to go further up the valley to Top Hut, but this requires high country river crossings and a higher level of skill than this track.
