Otago trip day 2 Mayfield to Tailings Hut

Otago is a long way from home, didn't get past the Waitaki until the afternoon. Played on some gravel roads South of Geraldine, made a fuel miscalculation so detoured to Cave, before blasting over MacKenzie and Hakataramea Passes. From Kurow the fun really began as I climbed the Awakino Station zigzag track into Oteake Conservation Park. Narrow and steep with plenty of babyhead rocks, and stream crossings. Very rewarding and just what I had been looking forward to.
