Adventure Details
This is a 5,550km lap of the North Island with the aim to visit the four extremity lighthouses, Reinga, Egmont, Palliser, and East, with bonus lighthouses at Kaipara Head, Manukau Head, Baring Head, and Castlepoint. The files are a counterclockwise route from Napier, but this route can be ridden in either direction, and started from any location.
The track mostly follows the coast line, but will detour inland for some gravel roads. There are some in-and-out sidetracks to visit interesting beaches, but loop roads are generally preferred. There are 3 beaches included in the main track, Ninety Mile Beach, Baylys Beach to Kaipara Head, and Red Rocks. Please familiarise yourself with local tides and hazards before attempting.
The route is broken into 10 files, these are not day files. In particular note that it is highly unlikely that you will be able to ride both Ninety Mile and Baylys Beach/Kaipara Head in a single day due to tides.
