You can start by heading up to the radio tower or along the wash and to shell canyon.
The road up to the radio tower is an old cobblestone road, some sections have fallen apart and become chunky but don't last long.
The road along the wash is pretty well beaten in and not too deep sand but some sand. Check out the cool canyon built of shells and the neat formations.
